My name is Sifu Daniel Johns. In 1999, I graduated high school and moved to Banning, California, for college. The distance to my martial arts school became too great, forcing me to search for a new place to train. After weeks of looking for something similar to what I already knew, I realized I had to either settle for a different style of Karate or start something entirely new. I chose Kung Fu—a decision that would change my life forever. I vividly remember the day I walked into *Master Angel A. Velazquez’s* school. At 18 years old, I had six years of experience and a head full of pride. But after just one class with *Master Velazquez*, I was humbled. I realized how much more there was to learn. I signed up that very day, and my love for Kung Fu has only grown stronger since. Twenty-six years later, at 44 years old, I still practice almost every day. Kung Fu is not just a fighting art; it’s an art of health, fitness, meditation, and spiritual awareness. Practicing forms quiets my mind and relieves stress, while the powerful, dynamic movements strengthen my body and cardiovascular system. As *Master Velazquez* always says, “If you stop moving, you rust.” It’s a simple truth that resonates deeply with me. Today, I can do things at 44 that many 20-year-olds struggle with. In 2007, I earned the title of Sifu. Over the next two years, I explored MMA, learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. However, after a few years in MMA gyms and feeling the effects of time, I realized something was missing. I returned to *Master Angel A. Velazquez’s* Black Tiger Academy and began training again. This time, I discovered something profound. As a young man, I was focused on learning how to fight. But under *Master Velazquez’s* guidance, I found the true beauty and grace of Kung Fu—its health benefits, its meditative qualities, and its endless depth. I no longer needed constant sparring partners; I had found an art that could sustain a lifetime of study and discovery. Over the years, *Master Angel A. Velazquez* became more than a teacher—he became my mentor and a dear friend. In 2017, I had the honor of participating in the Bai Shi ceremony, becoming his first Yup Sut Dai Gee, or Close-Door Disciple. It was a milestone I will cherish forever. In 2024, I moved to Campbellsville, Kentucky, to continue my martial arts journey and teach Ng Ga Kuen to new students. Passing on the knowledge *Master Angel A. Velazquez* imparted to me is the greatest way I can honor him and the lineage of our art. My hope is to continue these teachings, ensuring that our art thrives for generations to come.
