For 15 years, Si Gung Angel dedicated himself to teaching in Banning, California, where he became a cornerstone of the community. His classes were not just about techniques but about building character, resilience, and a sense of belonging. Recently, he expanded his vision by opening a new location in Cathedral City, where he continues to empower individuals through martial arts. His mission is to cultivate positive role models, instill confidence, and promote a strong sense of community among his students. Si Gung Angel believes that true martial arts integrity lies in the capacity to uplift others. He strives to leave a lasting impact on every student he encounters, guiding them to achieve their personal best while instilling the core values of discipline, respect, and perseverance. His dynamic approach to teaching emphasizes that martial arts is a lifelong journey—one that requires dedication, humility, and an open heart. As he continues to move forward, Si Gung Angel remains steadfast in his commitment to inspire and uplift those around him, ensuring that the spirit of martial arts thrives in every individual he trains.

The Journey of a Martial Artist From a young age, he carried energy that could not be contained—restless, intense, and relentlessly curious. As the youngest of eight siblings, growing up in a neighborhood where bullies and rough edges tested every virtue, he learned quickly that the body could be both a weapon and a shield. His father, recognizing the torrent of energy, sought an outlet that could channel it into focus, discipline, and purpose. Martial arts entered his life at nine years old, and within the rhythms of Chinese kung fu, he found a home. A Story of the First Strike: Where It Began The first story that still lights his path goes back to the early days of training. A bully in the neighborhood would routinely extort money from neighborhood kids whenever they passed through the little store at the corner. He dreaded facing that store, living in fear that he’d be coaxed into a taunt or a fight again. Then came the moment of truth—when practice began to translate into real motion. He remembers the moment with astonishing clarity. He walked toward the corner store, legs shaking yet eyes steady, carrying only the resolve that training had given him. The bully looked at him with a hunter’s gaze, as if sizing up a rabbit. But the young martial artist stood his ground, meeting the stare with a quiet, unyielding breath. The bully demanded money; he said he had none, only the coins needed for basic necessities. A push followed, and the world tilted. He steadied himself, planted his feet, and blocked the shove. He stepped back, surged forward, and launched a spinning kick that landed square on the bully’s jaw. The bully collapsed to his knees, his posse laughing and jeering turned to silence. In that instant, the lesson of martial arts crystallized: technique, timing, and courage can change the trajectory of a life. He walked away not just with bruises, but with the certainty that discipline and skill can translate into security, dignity, and the power to protect oneself and others. That moment was not an end, but the opening of a lifelong commitment to learn, grow, and lead by example.

A Path of Gratitude and Centering Practice The experience of learning under a lineage of masters—Eric Lee, Douglas Wong, Samuel Kwok, Seming Ma, Cesar Olavarria, and David Rubio Tovar—has been nothing short of miraculous. The opportunity to train, to absorb, and to grow under these teachers offered more than technique; it offered a framework for gratitude, balance, and centered living. The practice has given him a compass to stay steady in life, even when circumstances pull him in directions that seem to stretch beyond reach. In those moments when the road looks impossible, a memory of training—of one more rep, one more breath—pulls him forward, bringing him closer to the finish line. Hall of Fame Distinction Over the years, his commitment to excellence has earned him recognition across the martial arts world. He has been inducted into more than twelve Hall of Fame honors across diverse organizations, each award reflecting a facet of his journey: - National Kung Fu Hall of Fame (Lifetime Achievement) - International Martial Arts Hall of Fame (Instructor of the Year) - United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame (Master Instructor) - World Kung Fu Federation Hall of Fame (Excellence in Teaching) - Asian Martial Arts Legends Hall of Fame (Contribution to Traditional Arts) - International Martial Arts Hall of Fame (Community Outreach) - Martial Arts Masters Hall of Fame (Leadership in Education) - Global Martial Arts Hall of Fame (Cultural Ambassador) - California Martial Arts Hall of Fame (Pioneering Education) - Mexico City Martial Arts Hall of Fame (Cross-Border Education) - Cathedral City Hall of Fame (Community Impact) - Additional regional halls recognizing youth mentorship, coach leadership, and charitable work Each Hall of Fame honor marks not only personal achievement but the shared work of students, colleagues, and communities that helped him grow. A Transition to Teaching and Global Reach At nineteen, with the blessing and mentorship of his teacher, he opened his first school, stepping into the role of instructor just as the previous generation began to hand over the torch. The responsibility was immense, but so was the opportunity. He embraced teaching as a means to crystallize his own understanding: to distill complex movements into accessible principles, to convey the why as clearly as the how, and to cultivate an environment where students could grow—not only in technique but in character. His teaching philosophy—classic in its roots, modern in its execution—emerged from years of travel, study, and practice around the world. He has shared the art across continents, establishing branches across the United States and in Mexico City. More recently, a new chapter began in Cathedral City, California, after a decade in other communities, bringing a matured perspective to the craft.
